Overview

Long ago, dreams were disconnected from reality and could only affect someone through memory. Nowadays, one's spiritual body can travel to and from the Dream World to acquire special treasures, abilities, and, more often than not, injuries. It is impossible to tell when exactly the Dream World became linked with the living one, however, most Laureates believe it had something to do with the Fey.

Naturalists convey stories from the Fey which tell of their ancestors' desire to torment living creatures in ways the physical world couldn't allow. It was then they learned of what humans call "dreams". Over time, the Fey learned to access the Dream World and spent a millennium connecting it to the imaginations of every living creature in the real world.

At first glance, the Dream World may seem familiar to the physical one. However, you'll quickly realize the dangerous difference is that anything is possible. Here, you are at the whim of your own imagination. If you accidentally think of drowning, you may find yourself trapped under an ocean of water. If you think of your hands turning into poisonous snakes, they just might. Anything and everything can happen, and it only takes the smallest wandering thought to wind up in a deadly situation.

Survival

The most imperative skill necessary to survive the Dream World is a disciplined mind. Focus on the task at hand and refuse to let your mind wander. However, you must also acquire the ability to turn your imagination on and off at will. If you find yourself stuck in a sticky situation without the ability to think of an escape, you're done for. Be fast. Be motivated. Be versatile. It is impossible to plan a journey through the Dream World or anticipate its dangers, so you best be prepared for anything.

Inhabitants

No one who is entirely sane voluntarily wanders the Dream World. It is not uncommon for someone to desire the capability of freely wandering their dreams only to discover that they no longer feel at home in the waking world or become so lost they can never return. However, more often than not, those who wander here are doing so entirely by accident. Meditation experts who fell too deep into a trance, those on a trip from hallucinatory drugs, or even someone who's fallen asleep just a little too close to a Dream Blossom Flower.

That being said, there are plenty of creatures who roam this world. Some are benign, while others are the embodiments of Nightmare, and many are both. These creatures, born of dreams, are the only living beings who can stay here long term fully intact. If you see another person, chances are they lost their sanity long ago.

It is only in the last century that Laureates began studying humans' capability to enter and exit the Dream World at will, as well as the extent of its influence on the physical world. But anyone, including the Fey, who say they are in control of their Dreams are lying.
