Who are the Sweepers?
The first city to emerge from the ashes is the city of Celeste. From the moment you enter, visitors notice Celeste’s Sweepers—towering dark giants that protect the city and its inhabitants. Like the city itself, they, too, were born of destruction. These ashy, ephemeral spirits are the only ones who know the secret location of the city’s core. They guard silently, watching from the rooftops and within the dark coves between buildings.
As the city’s guardians, the Sweepers resemble spirits with long giant bodies. They do not speak. No one has ever heard a Sweeper’s voice. On rare occasions, however, when the city is under attack or in harm’s way, the Sweepers let out a long, low, howling sound; a warning to the inhabitants that danger comes. You can find Sweepers on the tops of buildings or in between the cliffs - always watching; always guarding.
Sweeper Lore
The Sweepers are some of the most dangerous beings in existence today. Created by Celeste herself, they operate as an extension of her will for the sole purpose of protecting her from the dangerous Wilderness beyond her borders. They rarely speak, interact with residents, or venture outside the city, but pray you never have to cross one as their carnage is quick, unstoppable, and emotionless.Legend has it, when the Sweepers were first introduced they were nearly as tall as the towers themselves. However, residents reportedly requested Celeste reduce their size for the sake of their sanity. Afterwards, these original Sweepers were sent on a mission by Celeste and haven’t been seen in nearly 1000 years. These portraits are the only remaining evidence of their existence aside from the crazed ramblings of Wilderness Adventurers.
